Dorm

Our dorm is divided into five houses (A–E), each home to around 25 students.

Every house has a shared kitchen, at least one cozy common or dining room, as well as a balcony and a garden. Bathrooms are shared by about six residents per hallway. The entire dorm is surrounded by a large garden and old trees – a green oasis in the heart of the city. Cleaning the shared spaces is done by dedicated residents who get paid for their work – though of course, that doesn’t mean you can just make a mess. On the contrary: if you don’t do your dishes and get caught, your punishment is cooking for the entire house!

Our “Brücke” (bridge) is the perfect spot to blow off steam at the foosball or ping pong table – or to drop off clothes at our swap corner and maybe discover your next favorite outfit. Our new sauna is also part of the weekly routine and offers a cozy space to relax and sweat together. And of course, we know how to party: Thursday bar nights are a regular highlight, our tutors organize fun events throughout the semester, and several times a year we celebrate big dorm-wide parties that make life at Massmann unforgettable!

Location

The Massmann Dorm is located right in the heart of Munich’s vibrant Maxvorstadt district.

The Theresienstraße subway station (U2) is just a 6-minute walk away, and the Sandstraße tram stop can be reached in only 4 minutes. Several bus lines are also accessible within 5 minutes on foot.

Munich’s major universities are just around the corner – LMU is 1.8 km away, TUM only 1 km, and the University of Applied Sciences just 500 meters. To the southeast, the dorm borders the lively Massmannpark, and to the north, the Heßstraße. Within walking distance, you’ll find countless cafés, bakeries, and supermarkets. The adjacent Massmannpark offers a variety of recreational options: a large skate park, basketball and volleyball courts, and plenty of space to be active.

And when the sun goes down, Maxvorstadt still has a lot to offer: The neighborhood is packed with bars, pubs, and clubs – perfect for a relaxed evening drink or a full night out. If you’re into art and culture, the Kunstareal München is just around the corner. It’s home to 18 museums and exhibition venues, including the Alte and Neue Pinakothek, the Pinakothek der Moderne, and the Lenbachhaus.

Rooms

Our rooms are between 8 and 15 m² in size. Monthly rent currently ranges between €306.50 and €364.50, depending on the room size. This price includes all utilities – that means washing machine use, internet, electricity, water, heating, cleaning of common areas and general maintenance are all covered. A deposit of €300 is required and will be refunded upon proper move-out.

Each room comes with a wardrobe, bed, desk, stool, and shelves. Beyond that, you can exchange every furniture except the wardrobe with your own and indivually furnish your room.

One big advantage: unlike many other student dorms, we don’t have a maximum length of stay for permanent residents. As long as you’re enrolled at a state-recognized university, you can stay with us as long as you like!
